English Department Attends 皇家华人鈥檚 Hispanic Heritage Showcase

皇家华人 celebrated its annual Hispanic Heritage Showcase and Awards Breakfast on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019. Many 皇家华人 faculty, staff, and students received awards for their service and work with Hispanic communities in 皇家华人 and globally. During the showcase, 皇家华人 English Department鈥檚 advisor, Mike Stowe, and the Director of Literature, Dr. Susan Mooney, shared information about the Latinx and Hispanic content in the department's creative work, research, and teaching.

Dr. Ylce Irizarry鈥檚 award-winning 2016 book 鈥溾 was on display, as well as information about her recent courses on Latinx Literature. 

Information about the Graduate Certificate in Comparative Literary Studies, directed by Mooney, which allows for bilingual interdisciplinary studies in Hispanic and Latinx topics, was on hand. 

English Department representatives also spread the word about two fall events, showcasing Angie Cruz鈥檚 book talk and reading from her raved-about novel, 鈥,鈥 and 皇家华人 MFA Graduate Jaquira D铆az鈥檚 reading from her first book 鈥.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

Also available for viewing were the 皇家华人-Cuba bilingual issue of 鈥淪aw Palm,鈥 皇家华人 MFA鈥檚 award-winning literary journal; a copy of 鈥淐hiric煤 Journal: Latina/o Literatures, Arts, and Cultures,鈥 which featured graduate student Ashely Tisdale鈥檚 article, 鈥淭ransfigured Women: Race, Gender, and Disability in Alejandro Morales鈥檚 鈥楾he Rag Doll Plagues鈥欌; and newly minted Ph.D. in Literature Jos茅 Aparicio鈥檚 dissertation 鈥淩emembrance of a Wound: Ethical Mourning in the Works of Ana Men茅ndez, El铆as Miguel Mu帽oz, and Junot D铆az.鈥 Issue 10 of Saw Palm can be ordered at .
