Parents and kids (6 months-2 years) learn to swim together with guidance from »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Swim instructors in fun, safe lessons at »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Tampa.

In collaboration with »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Recreation and Wellness, »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË is proud to offer the Parent and Child Swim program, designed to introduce young children to the water in a safe and enjoyable way. This program is tailored for parents and their little ones, ages 6 months to 2 years, allowing them to bond while learning essential water safety skills. With the guidance of certified »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Swim instructors, parents will learn effective techniques to help their child develop confidence and comfort in the water.

The Parent and Child Swim program offers a unique, hands-on learning experience that supports both the child and parent in a positive and engaging environment. Parents will play an active role in their child's aquatic development, using proven methods to foster a safe and enjoyable learning experience. With a focus on building trust, comfort, and confidence, this program ensures that both parent and child are well-prepared for future swimming adventures.

What is the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Parent and Child Swim program?

The »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Parent and Child Swim program helps build your child’s confidence and safety in the water while teaching basic swimming skills. Parents/guardians act as the swim instructor, providing a hands-on approach in a supportive and positive learning environment.

How are the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Parent and Child to Swim sessions structured, and what are the class options?

The »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Parent and Child Swim program is divided into four sessions, each lasting two weeks.

Lessons are held Monday through Thursday, with two registration options:

Option 1: Mondays and Wednesdays during both weeks of the session.
Option 2: Tuesdays and Thursdays during both weeks of the session.
Each option offers four time slots to choose from:

8:15 AM – 8:45 AM
5:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Class sizes are capped at 3 swimmers per time slot, ensuring your child will be in a group with no more than 2 other swimmers.

What is the duration of each »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Parent and Child Swim session and the number of lessons included?

Each session includes four lessons, with two lessons per week for two weeks lasting 30 minutes each

Requirements and Guidelines

Do I need swimming experience to participate?

No prior swimming experience is required for parents or children.

What are the participation guidelines?

  • Age Requirement: Children must be between 6 months and 2 years old.
  • Diaper Policy: All infants must wear an approved swim diaper (e.g., Huggies Little Swimmers).
  • Parent Participation: One parent/guardian must accompany the child in the water.
  • Observers: Other family members may watch from the designated observation area.
  • Class Size: Classes are limited to three students per session.

Registration and Logistics

Where is the program held?

Swim lessons are held at the Campus Recreation Building on the »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Tampa campus, located at 12301 »Ê¼Ò»ªÈË Genshaft Drive, Tampa, FL 33620.

What do I need to bring to class?

  • Approved swim diapers for infants.
  • Swimwear and towels for both parent and child.
  • Any additional items as recommended by the instructor.

Can multiple caregivers attend a session?

Only one parent or guardian is allowed in the water, but other family members may observe from the designated observation area.

Where can I park during the lesson?

»Ê¼Ò»ªÈË parking permits are required at all times to park on campus. During registration, you have the option to purchase a 4-day parking pass for $10. Alternatively, you can use the ParkMobile app to pay for daily parking at the Yuengling Center lot.
