Research Disruption Management

Research continuity is critical, especially for labs housing sensitive materials, live specimens, or critical experiments. Faculty should annually review lab-specific vulnerabilities and have a unit-specific protocol to maintain the protection of lab-based activities (including animal studies) during a disruption to the university. Such a protocol may reference 鈥渆ssential personnel鈥 to carry out the care and safety of lab animals.

Planning for research disruptions should include:

  • Animal Lab Management 鈥 Secure protocols for animal care, feeding, and temporary relocation if needed.
  • Hazardous Materials Security 鈥 Proper shutdown and safety procedures for chemical, biological, and radiological materials.
  • Data and Equipment Protection 鈥 Ensuring continued access to essential research data and preventing loss of progress due to infrastructure shutdowns.
